Director JACK FESSENDEN is cited as one of “11 Great Indie Filmmakers 30 and Under You Need to Know” by IndieWire, Jack directed his first feature, Stray Bullets, during high school. Starring James Le Gros and Kevin Corrigan, Stray Bullets was heralded by Hollywood Reporter as a “strikingly impressive…blazingly confident debut”. His second feature, Foxhole (2021), “achieves an almost abstract beauty” (MoMA) is the winner of the Woodstock Film Festival’s ‘Best Ultra Indie’ award, and was distributed by Samuel Goldwyn Films. Jack employs genre to tell issue-driven stories about characters grappling with a world on edge.

ALFALFA has an accomplished team of producers with credits at top festivals (Cannes, SXSW, Sundance) – distributed by both boutique companies and major streaming entities. They have managed a wide array of productions, from microbudgets at 20K to $10M films - forming a dynamic and resourceful team that can apply the tactics of small independent filmmaking to a project with the scope and ambition of ALFALFA. The team includes Andy Fraser (Unstoppable, The Good Shepard), Stephen Mastrocola (Breakup Season, Crossword), Lu Robinson (Crumb Catcher, 2nd Chance), Joshua Elias Palmer (Transcendent, Old Soul), Nevin Kelly Fair (May December, Arco) and Rev Lennox Yearwood (Upcoming Untitled Tom McCarthy Film).

Lance is a sprinkler man trapped in a town plagued by drought, Lance struggles to escape the grip of a shady developer and build a new life for him and his family.

Lance’s wife. Elana feels complicit in her town’s chronic growth and wants out. She makes it her mission to uncover the truth behind the allegations against their daughter, Maya.

Whip is a charming manipulator and Lance’s old friend. When his water-guzzling resort empire comes under fire, he ropes Lance into a risky alfalfa growing venture for the Saudis.

Ouray runs a sustainable farm on the outskirts of town and does standup at the local rec center. He is the father of Kaiya, the girl Maya is accused of injuring.

A key partner of our impact mission, Reverend Lennox Yearwood is the President & CEO of Hip Hop Caucus — a national nonprofit, nonpartisan organization celebrating 20 years of advancing civil and human rights through hip-hop culture. He is a Senior Advisor for Bloomberg Philanthropies and is one of today’s most innovative advocates for racial and climate justice. He was one of 50 changemakers selected for Forbes’ inaugural Sustainability Leaders list in 2024. At a fundraising event in May, he presented a video with a call to action to fund stories like ALFALFA that can, and must, reach new audiences. You can watch Rev’s video below.

Alfalfa bridges a critical gap in the public imagination by bringing a specific, relatable consequence of the climate crisis to life. More than 40 million people depend on freshwater from the Colorado River, a lifeline strained by a 25-year megadrought accelerated by climate change, rapid suburban growth, data-center demand, and water-intensive agriculture. Alfalfa dramatizes a contemporary family’s struggle with environmental collapse and challenges audiences to rethink how humans live in balance with the natural world.

Alfalfa has established relationships with leading climate non-profits and media organizations to directly support an impact campaign to extend visibility and engagement with key audiences, including directly affected communities and tribes across the Southwest.

ALFALFA is fiscally sponsored by the Utah Film Center. Tax deductible donations can be made via their online portal here. Donations cannot be recouped as an investment nor do they participate in the net proceeds of the project alongside the investors, as these are considered charitable contributions.

INVEST:

Alfalfa is a feature-length independent motion picture being produced by A Really Good Home Pictures, Buffalo 8, and Glass Eye Pix through ALFALFA VENTURES LLC., a New York State limited liability company. The film is currently in the financing stage with a targeted production budget of $2,750,000. The picture is eligible for domestic and international distribution, including potential submission for festival consideration and digital platform licensing. Investors will be entitled to a share of the net profits, which shall be based on each investor’s equity capital contribution over the total equity raised toward the Budget of the project.
